Since the 2000s, Google has continually evolved its search engine to adapt to new digital uses and combat attempts to manipulate its algorithm. Despite this, the very foundations of SEO have changed very little in 20 years. However, 2023 could mark a turning point in the idea we have of search engines and how they work.

Will AI be a turning point for SEO in 2023?
In 2022, Google stepped up its long-standing fight against cell phone number list spammy links (Link Spam Update) and poor quality content (Helpful content update). Earlier this year, the success of ChatGPT and, to a lesser extent, the leak of Yandex's ranking criteria fueled the digital news and are likely to generate a lot more ink. Artificial intelligence will likely play a significant role in the coming months in the way we generate, search for and access information on search engines.
Content generation through AI
Automated content generation tools using the GPT-3 language model are not a new discovery. But until now, the quality of the results has often left something to be desired even if they have shown promise.

Last November, the arrival on the market of the ChatGPT conversational agent designed by OpenAI completely changed the game due to the quality of the answers it provides to users. It now arouses all fantasies and has found more than 100 million followers in less than 3 months. The American media Buzzfeed even declares that it intends to use ChatGPT for the creation of its content. Of course, the results of ChatGPT for certain requests are still imprecise but the tool is destined to improve by feeding on the requests formulated by users.
Has ChatGPT become the Eldorado of content creation? Will automated content generation become the norm? Not quite, in our opinion. Automated content often means standardized content that provides little added value to the user because it can be found on every corner of websites without critical thinking or subjectivity.
The information provided by ChatGPT is sometimes inaccurate and must be cross-checked with reliable sources. The tool has a database that stops at the end of 2021. At the time of publication, ChatGPT still identifies Jacinda Ardern as Prime Minister of New Zealand, which is no longer the case since January 25, 2023.
