Campaign Project Groups
Local groups for members from the same city or region
Interest groups about cooking or photography, for example
Everyone is free to start their own group. Hendrik keeps a close eye on this: “We do contact group administrators to tell them that they also have a responsibility to guide the group. In addition, we regularly clean up to prevent groups from growing wildly.”
When you come to Greenwire, you can go to the communities of the other affiliated fax lists countries via a drop-down menu at the top right. Hendrik: “You can see some of the content, but you can’t contact members in other countries yet. We want to do that in the future. We would like volunteers from the Netherlands to be able to learn from volunteers from America.”
Direct involvement
What works well in the online community is involving members immediately upon arrival. After you have registered as a member, you will receive a new email every week for three weeks. The first email is a general email explaining what Greenwire is. The second email is a proposal to become active in one of the roles, or to register for a current meeting. In the last email, other volunteers tell about what they have done for Greenpeace.
