Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says the next generation of the rugged whatsapp number list smartphone series will be able to send text messages via satellite.

The report from reliable Apple Watcher (small 'w') says the Apple Watch Ultra 3, due next September if recent precedent holds, would be able to send text messages off-grid.
The inference is that this would be a more enhanced version of the satellite connectivity included in the iPhone 15 that allowed iMessages to be sent to regular contacts, rather than simply contacting emergency services, as was previously available and introduced with the iPhone 14 range.
